Match is annoying. :( I have some advantage including nice scores, us degree and working experience. But the disadvantage is I am a IMG and graduated long time ago from medical school. You will know when you start your ERAS application. Reading and Passing the tests is the most straight forward thing on the way to get matched because it is kind of under your control. It is never too early to think about other stuff at your stage, such as recommadation letter, personal statement. As IMG, USMLE score is the most important also how many years that you have graduated. To be honest, midwest is not an IMG friendly place to apply for residency. East coast is much better, especially NYC with its diverse race population. Also you have to think about what kind of carrer you would like for yourself, you want to be an primary care physician or want to be specialist, you want to open your own practice or you want to work in academic university hospital. You will need more research experience if you apply later on for fellowship in those top university programs. I will get matched, the problem is whether I will get matched to the program I like most. You will encounter those problems too.
Step 2 is kind of tricky one. It is easy to read, but more difficult to score high. I prepared for three months and I think it is enough (assume you are full time reader). I would've not score any higher even I had spent more time reading.
Most of all, this is not the only thing in your life, enjoy every aspect of it. Try to relax and slow down from time to time. I didn't read after 7pm everyday. As far as you spend your time efficiently, you will do fine.
I will let you know the result of my match, it is coming next month.

Good to see you back again. Nice pictures of the city. I am going back to Shanghai again in April. Will try to walk a little bit more in town to feel what you felt. Like the way you wrote about hospitals. My classmates are older than yours and more relaxed too. We even had a trip out of town in the middle of the week when I was in Shanghai last december.
Good news, I passed the CS. Just let you know that it is not neccessary to take Kaplan.
I lived in Midwest before. Can't say that I like the place. Now I live in New York. Love it. hopefully I could type in Chinese next time.
You are not alone on the way to USMLE. So many people made it. You will make it someday somehow.
Best luck!
check your page everyday and so glad to see you are back. your articles are really touching and I can't help tearing. Thanks! Happy new year and good luck for everything!
