It’s similar in spirit to the Irish Angela’s Ashes in that they both involve poor/hungry childhood induced partly if not all by an alcoholic father. Only GlassCastle has much love and fun in it. It’s more whimsical, delightful and essentially more American.
Very beautifully written. The only criticism I have on the book is that the last one sixth of the book, after the author went to New York, reads more like a fiction. Things become too … perfect.
Nonetheless a great read!

Worth a try, The Castle of Cagliostro, Lupin III(古城之迷), 3 and half stars ;), especially realised that it was made in 1979.
