China and Thailand are working together to build a 1,170-mile-long road project that will connect Kunming, a southwestern Chinese city with southern Thai ports via Laos.
Once that is done:
1. Land travel time between Thailand and China will be greatly reduced.
2. Trade between the two countries will be boosted.
3. China will be more tied to its southeast Asian neighbors.
