Another Day In Paradise

She calls out to the man on the street
"Sir can you help me
It's cold and I've nowhere to sleep
is there somewhere you can tell me"

He walks on, doesn't look back
He pretends he can't hear her
Starts to whistle as he crosses the street
Seems embarrassed to be there

Oh, think twice
It's just another day for you and me in paradise
Oh, think twice
It's just another day for you
You and me in paradise

Just think about it...

She calls out to the man on the street
He can see she's been crying
She's got blisters on the soles of her feet
She can't walk but she's trying

Oh, think twice
It's just another day for you and me in paradise
Oh, think twice
It's just another day for you
You and me in paradise

Just think about it...

Oh lord, is there nothing more anybody can do
Oh lord, there must be something you can say

You can tell from the lines on her face
You can see that she's been there
Probably been moved on from every place
'Cos she didn't fit in there

Oh, think twice
It's just another day for you and me in paradise
Oh, think twice
It's just another day for you
You and me in paradise

Just think about it...

It's just another day for you and me in paradise...

I like songs with a social conscience. They may not be deeply philosophical, but they force us to reflect upon ourselves. Listen to them, soon you'll realize that -- somehow, the song has been given a soul.

Which is why I am posting the lyrics to this song. I'm sure, we've all heard it before.

It is not my desire, nor my purpose, to remind anyone of charity. Rather, it is a reminder to myself, for I am every bit as guilty as the faceless "man on the street". Sure, I've tried to help a few people here and there, sparing my time and change when I find it convenient to spare it. But how many times have I walked by someone in need and paid him no heed?

Oh it's so easy. When you walk through a hospital, everywhere you see their plead for help. There's pain, there's suffering, there's grief of every kind. And when charity is needed most, how many times have I closed my ears and shut my eyes, hardened my heart and cringed away from those who need my help?

Charity suffereth long, and is kind; charity envieth not; charity vaunteth not itself, is not puffed up, doth not behave itself unseemly, seeketh not her own, is not easily provoked, thinketh no evil; rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth; beareth all things, believeth all things, hopeth all things, endureth all things. Charity never faileth.

Man, however, do fail.
