This is great space to use for express what I have seen from my worldwide trips. As a Shanghai-er, living at east cost of USA/>/>, traveling worldwide, I always have multiple feelings regarding living standards, and constantly seeking where is the best place for me to live.
Today, I am in Taipei/>/>, the dream place for most of Taiwanese. I really appreciated the delicious street food, excellent dishes in the classy restaurant, great service, and etc. It is great place to conduct business here. As traveler, I do not know how many times I have been this island, and enjoyed very much every visit. However, asking me to live here. The answer is big NO.
The environment is not right, it is kind of mess. Seems to me, no body is taking care of city. Everybody is trying very hard to use this island to make money. One of my American friends told me which I agreed with his view 100%.
People in South Korean treat their city as their permanent home, put them into well organized way, make them livable and conformable;
People in Shanghai/>/> make their city to be livable, enjoyable, and presentable permanent home;
But people in Taipei/>/> treat their city as resource and gold miner, just dig and take. As traveler, you will feel everybody and everything here is temporary. And every body is well prepared to dump this city at any time.
agree! the island was used for a base to fight back to mainland, and all the money were spent on military at the begining by Chiang Kai-shek. When all the haves send their children to US, the havenots are struggling for a living in country.
Taiwanese are mostly mild-tempered, and polite, but I just wonder with all the good engineers and intellectuals taken to this island after the civil war, why average Taiwanese seems to unable to benefit from this heritage, most of them are in short of any vision in any kind.
