Role Model Student
昨天晚上吃饭，劳工说给大宝的老师发电子邮件时，顺便提了一下大宝很喜欢学校和老师，谢谢老师辛勤教导等等PMP 的话。结果老师回电子邮件时也客气地说大宝在学校的表现不错，是个 Role Model Student.什末？
我瞅了瞅旁边的大宝，此刻正狼吞虎咽地往嘴里扒饭，左看右看怎末也看不出他有 Role Model Student的苗头啊？
大少爷每天下午回家后，比划俩笔中文作业，弹一两分钟琴，就跟奶奶告假，骑着车到外面海阔天空去了，不玩到天黑不知道回家，昨天我到家都快六点了，还不见他老人家的身影，后来在邻居印度人的家里把他揪了出来，他正跟人家热火朝天地玩游戏呢。
现在跟满大街的小孩都混的奔儿熟，和他出去散步那可真是热闹，左一个“嗨！ Ben! ”右一个“嗨 Joe!”，谁家的小孩叫什末他弄得门清。可一回家连琴就露出本质了。专挑那容易上手的弹，全没有了玩游戏时的执著进取，知难而进，每练一首新曲子不知得花老爸老妈多少 PMP 的口舌。
还有他那中文作业，多半都是在上中文学校前一天突击完成的。大宝比以前有进步是真，可是离 Role ModelStudent 那可还是差了十万八千里。
说起 Role ModelStudent ，想起前一段时间看了篇报道采访杜克大学毕业生 William Hwang 的事迹。
小伙子获得今年的 RhodesScholarship ，这项奖励在全美 50 个州的应届大学毕业生中筛选，只发给 32个申请人，克林顿总统以前就曾拿过这个奖，所以才能去牛津留学。 William Hwang 在本科期间非常优秀， triple major,以全优的成绩毕业。
而最重要的是他几年前创立了一个非盈利的组织，专门组织大学生志愿者去给生活贫穷的中学生教科学知识，让他们也能得到教育，对科学产生兴趣。你可以在对他的访谈中看出他的自信和对科学的执著，而且他不仅德育体全面发展，还有一颗善良爱帮助人的心。 他才真正是 Role ModelStudent. 等少爷们长大了要好好儿向他们宣传 William 的事迹。 以下的介绍摘自http://www.rhodesscholar.org/

AnAngier B. Duke Scholar, Goldwater Scholar and President's ResearchFellow, Billy Hwang's passion for research includes digitalmicrofluidic biochips, stem-cell communication, swarm intelligence,buoyant flow fluid dynamics, and articular cartilage injuries.
Hedesigned a biomimetic arm to help children with TAR syndrome gainindependence. An alumnus of the Lucent Global Science Scholars Program,the Research Science Institute, and the Science and EngineeringApprenticeship Program, he has published 9 papers since 2001 and hasreceived several honors for his work, including the Washington Academyof Science Outstanding Achievement in Research Award and Department ofNavy Environmental Research awards.
Billy is the co-editor-in-chief of Eruditio, the Duke Undergraduate Humanities Journal, and associate editor of Vertices,the Duke Undergraduate Journal of Science and Technology.
Appointed2005 Chief Student Marshal of the School of Engineering , he serves asvice-president of the Tau Beta Pi NC Gamma Chapter, and is a member ofPhi Beta Kappa, Sigma Pi Sigma, and Phi Eta Sigma. Billy has a passionfor volunteer work and co-founded United InnoWorks Academy , aneducational non-profit organization with over 80 volunteer collegestudents dedicated to developing innovative science and engineeringprograms free for middle-school students from disadvantagedbackgrounds.
Billy is a setter/outside hitter for the Duke Men'sVolleyball Team (which won the 2004 Division IAA National Championship)and received numerous athletic accolades during his high school years.In addition, Billy held the position of first violinist in the DukeSymphony Orchestra as a freshman. |
