Michelle Kwan Becomes US Ambassador

Michelle Kwan is the 26-year-old daughter of Chinese immigrants from Hong Kong.

Secretary of State Condolezza Rice tapped Kwan to become a non-salary diplomat for U.S. public diplomacy. 

Kwan is the most decorated figure skater in U.S. history with nine national championships and five world titles.

She will serve under Karen Hughes, the undersecretary of state for public diplomacy.
