Some people like doing all the chores by themselves, such as cooking, cleaning, renovating the house, etc., and they do enjoy it indeed. But the question is, should they? Should you wash your own windows when it costs $25 hiring others for the job? It depends on situations. If you have nothing important to kill the time, it is better to do it by yourself. At least, the exercise is good to your health when compared with being a couch potato. But, if you can walk in a park with family members or friends, it may be worth spending $25. This is an opportunity cost, according to Erik Hurst, professor of economics at University of Chicago. Maybe most people should not work over time on these trivial chores, but enjoy their quality life.
