I think I 已经认同美国文化了. I will not ask my kids to 孝顺 me. They are born in USA. They 已经认同美国文化了. For 美国文化, parent bring kids to this world without ask permision from kids. So it is parents respondsibility to take care kids untill they are 18 or 21. Parent have no right to ask kids for return because they raise their kids. It is parents own choice to bring kids to this world. We all have to responsible for our own choice. Following URL will give a good example what 孝顺 realy are. What all those so called 华人传统生活价值思想啦.
May be because I grow up in culture revelution, never know much about 华人传统生活价值思想. It is easy for me to accept 美国文化. My mother was fighting with my grant-ma(my father's mother) for many years and I never like those 孝顺.
What is 华夏传统文化价值思想?
I am 第一代美籍华人移民. But I grow up in culture revolution (from first grade elemetry school in 1966 to gradute from high school in 1977). Not sure I know much about 华夏传统文化价值思想.

the reason I said that you are not a second generation is exactly becaue what you wrote..you wrote from a narrow standpoint of a first generation...
Anyone who is born and grows up here is an AMERICAN...
yes, you are right, as a first generation, you will NEVER be a American ...you will always compare two cultures, you will always struggle between two languages...you might have an American Citizenship..but, deep inside, you are not an American..
But for a second generation, it's not the case..they are Americans...
Be it Chinese American, Italian American, German American, Scottish American...they are all Americans...
You might be marginalized, you might be lamenting about that you will never be so called "mainstream"...but, you are assuming way too much and are stretching way out your imagination and experience when you wrote about second generation..
you are obviously not a second generation, you are obviously have no idea what is the American culture or "mainstream" ...you are obviously have no idea what you are talking about..
