Make great sense. So like gymnastic competition, impresstion counts a lot. No wonder the popularity of secret rules (潜规则).

Just kidding.

Good questions Melly, with scientist's analytical mind. Yes, they are all very close to perfection. In this level, the physical capabilities can be the limitation. The judging criteria are techniques, artistry, the quality of movement(smoothness, volume or floor coverage, speed), the image and presentation as a couple, etc. Usually, the floor accident will not affect the results, unless someone has really bad floor craft. It is possible that one pair win one style while another pair win another, but usually there is no big distance, because each couple has certain capabilities and dance level that are hard to make difference in short time. So that, usually when you know who are competing on the floor, you can pretty much predict the results. Someone has to make big difference to change the results, where changing partner is a faster way.

This fits in my taste and style. Beautiful :-)

As a layman, I see little difference among those competitors. What are the criteria to evaluate them? What if one pair bumped another? They danced several different styles, could one of them win one style while another pair win another? So many stupid questions need to be enlightened.hehe...
