必须为我钟爱的法国车来说几句,为什么现在美国没有法国车卖

Why there are no French cars in the American market today? Many of us would say it’s the reliability thing since Renault’s angular "Le Car" had a bad reputation over the past.
As a matter of facts, there were other issues that behind the French car makers’ withdrawal from the U.S.

Back in the late1950’s, Peugeot’s U.S. presence was quiet enough that many could not pronounce its name, “despite its near-worldwide reputation and popularity”. However, U.S sales were so tremendous that Peugeot had sold 6867 during her first year in the States, and reached to 15,787 in the next year. The numbers had persuaded Peugeot to remain in the American market. The creation of the Peugeot 604, also known as the French Mercedes, was such a success. However, due to the new American regulations for automobiles, required swapping the 604’s European composite headlights for dual rectangular sealed beams—an unattractive change—and adding larger bumpers. Peugeot learned that “luxury and performance weren’t enough”, and left the American market in 1991.

If there was ever an automobile manufacturer that made cars that seemed unsuitable to the American market, it was Citroen. Americans expectations on cars were very different back then in the 70’s although Citroen made the DS 19 sedan, a low-drag streamlined sedan that featured so many innovations (self-leveling suspension, power disc brakes, "crumple-zone" construction, etc.)1. Americans weren't buying such expensive radicalness at the time so Citroen had to leave the U.S. in 1975.

Despite the historic cultural inability to admit to the existence to other thinking beings on this planet that French, with the exception of Michelin, Perrier and Schlumberger (an oil field technology company) have had very little success in the North American market. The main reason is that the inability of the French to appreciate the American culture and tastes.

French autos are an acquired taste just like the French food.
