女儿因为在上高中期间换了外语课,无法达到许多college要求的4年外语(指同一门)课程。在和法语老师商量后,又得到学校Counselor的大力鼓励和支持下,女儿决定上大学的summer法语课。这不,几个礼拜的课,要花了老爸一千三百多银子呢。等账单来了,老爸鼓励女儿和学校的counselor谈,看能不能减免一些。最后,counselor说女儿有医疗保险,就把女儿的医疗保险费减免了一百多。其它费用,counselor就无能为力了。

由于老爸是大学的员工,按理也有50%减免。老爸出马,跑了几个办公室,才摸清头绪。不过也很失望--目前的政策是只有注册的大学生才能享受。但学校正在讨论新的政策,看女儿的这种情况是不是也可减免。所以,老爸就和女儿商量,账单先付;然后,老爸出面给大学的financial aidoffice写一个email,说明情况。并在最后加了一句:“My daughter is seriously considering this university for her college education.”反正女儿的成绩没有问题,而女儿学校的学生是这所大学千方百计要争取的。

今天早晨送女儿出门去打工,女儿就问老爸:“Did you get the message about waiving my summer French class tuition?”



“What? really? I did not get the message. Forward to me, please.”老爸自然是听钱眼开了。

“I will. They sent to me yesterday and mentioned that they were going to refund all money to you. I read your message to them, too, since it was attached.”

“Really? See, you have to fight to get it. If I had not written the message, we would have not gotten this benefit. I bet my last sentence was important for them to make this decision.” 老爸连忙给一向比较内向的女儿上课。

“Yes!”女儿居然举起了她的小拳头。

“Now, you can keep all your money from your summer jobs. By the way, I never expected you to pay this tuition.(女儿这个summer先后打了三份工,到目前为止,挣了快2000块了吧。她一直说她自己要付这笔学费。)”


“Yeah! I always expected to pay by myself, anyway.”
