We are constantly puzzled by who we are, why we are here and where we go.
Physically, we have a body. We know that we were born through our parents and we will die when our body's functions are over. Are we only our body?
The major religions show that body and physical temptation are a great source of evil. Adam and Eve ate the fruit from the tree of knowledge of good and evil and sin began. Many traditions, religions have some punishment of human body or supress bodily desire. Budahism has strict rules for eating and sex. Islam has fast for a month. Jewish tradition has fast for a day. Those restrictions are the signal to us that we should restrict our bodily desire and pleasure. We are not our body. Our body is only a carrier of our soul. We are much more than our body. Our soul will remain even though our body may perish.
