It was a good final match. But I don't think Djokovic lost the first set because he was nervious. Tsonga simply played better in the first set. He is a much better player when he is fresh. The 2-2 service game by Djokovic in the second set was a turning point. Djokovic was struggling in that service game and Tsonga had many chances to break but did not cash in. The match could have a different out come if Tsonga broke at that game. Tsonga lost the 2,3 sets because his fitness level was good enough, he was not moving the same as he did in the first set.
IMO, Djokovic is too consistant. And he has a completely game. Forehand, backhand, volley, serves, movements are all excellent. He basically has no weakness. Fitness was his problem but this year he beated every body in straight sets en route too the final, and he is relatively fresh.
Tsonga has a bigger forehand than Djokovic and moves well when he was fresh. He is much fitter than he was last year, but he still has more room to improve in the fitness area. If he can improve his fitness level like Nadal, he will be a top 5 easily. He has a huge serve and his touch around the net is exceptional for a big guy. His backhand though is a huge liability though and definitely needs to improve. Djokovic kind of kept attacking that backhand side throught out the match. Tsonga's return of serves also need big improvement. His returning positioning on the duece court is terrible. He tries to protect his weaker backhand and as a result leaves his forehand side open a little bit more. Djokovic will hit either aces or service winners simply by slicing his serves to the forehand side. This happened many times through-out the match but Tsonga did not make adjustments to his positioning. A true puzzle! Tsonga also has problem returning high kick serves on the Ad side. Djokovic will hit a high kicker every time he was in trouble and that bailed him out.
Well, I guess the grand slam final is a big occasion, and this kind of match really requires experience. Djokovic has paid his dues and has been there before while this was Tsonga's first final appearance at ANY ATP level. Hope he can build on this experience and give the top players some tough challenges from here on in.
