BRIEF: AMD delays release of 2 chips for PCs: Chips for PCs delayed

Jan 12, 2008 (San Jose Mercury News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Advanced Micro Devices said Friday the release of two chips designed for personal computers will be delayed until the second quarter. The Phenom 9700 and 9900 models had been expected in the first quarter. Both will have four cores, or computer brains, to improve performance. AMD said in a statement that it is placing a greater priority on producing its triple-core and low-power Phenom 9000e processors. AMD stock rose 29 cents, or 4.9 percent, to $6.25 in Friday\'s trading prior to the announcement of the delay.
