女儿参加学校的Journalism team，去州里参加比赛。本来是参加Headline的项目，没想到有同学临时不能参加，老师只好让女儿顶替，参加两个项目的比赛。老爸问：“Are you sure you can handle both?”
“Doesn't matter. We had no time to prepare this event, and the teacher only gave us one week in advance to show us some examples about what to do in the contest.”女儿一脸的不在乎。
先是regional比赛。女儿的headline项目没有获得评委的青睐，而临时顶替的Copy and Editing居然拿了个地区第二，更妙的是，女儿学校获得地区第一名，让女儿有机会代表学校参加州里的比赛。老爸和女儿开玩笑：“Huh, see, it is important to take part in a team no matter what you play in the team. You were lucky to took the position of Copy and Editing, otherwise, you would have no chance for the final round.”
上个周末就是州里的决赛了。女儿开车胆小，要去４０里外的地方，只能求老爸了。好吧，就牺牲一个周末不钓鱼，陪女儿和她学校的team一天吧。再说，也是女儿练车的机会呢。
女儿比赛，老爸就在大学城里散步，顺便加油，买好女儿的午餐。十一点半比赛就完了。女儿一边啃着三明治，一边催着老爸快点往会赶，要去参加另一所大学的Asian American event。
傍晚，终于忙完了女儿才开口给老爸说：“You know what, dad, I got nothing from the contest for myself. However, our team won 2nd place in the State--a big step from 9th last year.....”
看来，比赛是重在参与啊。
