最后和女儿一起去找她学校的counselor, 才恍然大悟:“Smith is more liberal, and MountHolyoke is more conservative, and Wellesley is in the middle.”所以,这本书给我们提供了许多有用的信息,建议家长从这么书开始入门。
2。女儿在申请里没有对任何一所学校表现出强烈的兴趣。她是孩子心态,说:“Dad, I am not 100% sure where I want to go for my college. All 8 schools are good for me. So I will let them kill each other and help me to make the final decision.”
Hello! I am AAA BBB, a senior from CCCHigh School in DDD, Illinois. I applied to WellesleyCollege this past winter and was put on your wait list. Thus, I am writing to express my desires to attend your school for the four years.
Having visited Wellesley over the summer, I was enchanted by the campus. I couldn't believe that such a serene place could exist just miles from Boston! What also appealed to me was the strong sense of sisterhood – as an all women’s school, there are more opportunities for women to learn, bond, and grow, ultimately into passionate and dedicated women who can hold their own in our ever-shifting world.
If I were to attend Wellesley, I would bring a focused and creative aspect to your community. I am hardworking and dedicated, but also open to new ideas and opportunities. In addition, my inquisitive nature allows me to find unique solutions to a wide spectrum of problems.
I have also made several positive advancements in my high school career since December. Not only have I kept my grades up, but I was recently promoted to the temporary status of editorship and substituted as a group leader on my school’s online newspaper staff. Briefly, I was able to experience revising other student’s works, even though this is my first year in the class. In fact, I was chosen to write headlines in the upcoming Illinois High School Association journalism competition! Additionally, our journalism team was one of nine finalists in the National Scholastic Press Association Pacemaker competition.
I would really like to spend my next four years at WellesleyCollege. The only difficulty would be the cost of attending your school. However, I believe that studying at your college will make me a better and more successful person, a great investment for the both of us. Please consider me as you reevaluate each of your candidates for admission.
Thanks! Waiting for the good news next year for your son!

Thanks for you input.I remember the little story bookmy son read about the country mouse and city mouse.:). Reakky depends what each individual likes.
I am in the middle of corn field. My daughter likes it very much. That's why she likes college a little bit far away from city. As for the future, it is up to her.
Thanks a lot for your input!

Thank you so much! I forwarded to my daughter. She wanted me to pass her "thanks" to you.
It is said that one of the big asset in a LAC is the alumni network. Here I have seen 2 Wellesley alumni to offer helpful input! It is really impressive!
I am not sure which path she will go in her college career. After 17 year under my watch, she should have her own idea. I only hope she can build up more self-confidency in Wellesley. With her hard working spirit, plus a strong self-confidency, I bet she can achieve more in the future.
Thanks for your kind offer, I appreciate very much!

Your daughter better not go Stanford since I heard Harvard and MIT maybe more eastern top schools just call it "Country Club". And couple of my friends who got PHD pluses another master such as EE or CS, they only made 70,000 a year when they got out from the school. I believe staying in city around NY definately could live a better life and income.
Well, the most popular career path at Wellesley (at least when I was there) is to work in Wall Street doing investment banking and then go to a top B-school. Going to law school is very polular too. You can be any major to do all these - a lot of Wellesley girls majored in art history and they ended up being successful business women and lawyers.
I couldn't stand the long hours of investment banking and therefore took another path. I applied for grad school in computer science, without doing any lab research during the last 2 years except a summer research program sponsored by the army. I applied to 5 graduate programs: Stanford, Harvard, Berkeley and 2 programs at Carnegie Mellon. I got into every one except Berkeley - UC system has a rigid applicaiton process, they considered my application incomplete because I didn't take GRE computer science subject (Harvard required GRE subject too but they still accepted me after processing my application). Therefore, I don't think you need to worry about your daugher's career opportunity simply because she is going to graduate from a LAC.
If your daughter wants to talk about Wellesey life, you can email me at lye@cs.stanford.edu. Best wishes!

Thanks for your input. I showed your input to my daughter. She wants to thank you, too.
We are consider to take my daughter's cousin to Wellesley next year, too. She is good, a top student in a top high school in Shanghai. I asked my daughter to do more for her cousin next year.
I am concerned that my daughter may go to art-related major. However, it is her life, so I will let her make her own choice. I only asked her to put job opportunity into her career consideration.
In science major, it is better to have 1 or 2 years experience in a lab before they go to graduate program. I used to work in a research lab in a university, so I trained quite a few students from our own university/other LAC. It benefits the application of graduate progam.
ONe students who worked hard last year with me went to Washington medical school ( PH.D./MD.) She did very well with me, and get the 2nd authorship with my paper. I left the lab and she replaced me to give a talk in a big meeting this month. When she was interviewed by a few top medical schools, her presenttation was impressive.
Major really doesn't mean much in either LAC or universities for under grad. How come I never heard that you have to do research in the last 2 years? I graduated from Wellesley more than 10 years ago. I applied from China directly and was on financial aid too, btw, got into Mount Holyoke too.:)
I feel the colleage good or bad is not that so important, it depends on if the child is a determined person or not, I knew a friend's child, He studied in San Jose state college, later he transferred to berkely UC, he is just 33 years old, after he became a senior director in big software company, now he started his own company with some others. I feel if you dont have much money, no need to send child to such expensive college, if child studys well , he or she still can do well even graduated from common college,my opinion is to get a less expensive college and you save money for him or her to continue Master or PHD, generally you have higher degree you can make more money, but its not absolutely. My husband has a highest degree among his friends, even his career is not bad, but his friends who are degree holder still become VP or director etc. I feel most important you can find a career that you like.

It's good to know that your D gets in Wellesley. I dont' think that it will make any difference if your D apply for Wellesley's early decision. It's the passion that you really fit the school and wants to attend it. My D had the similar experience in 2006. She applied for Wellesley's early decision, and still got on the waiting list. Her statistics are : SAT I 2170, ACT 33, top3% in a well established publick school with a graduation class of 1200 people, the VP of the school debate team with a number of awards in the Debate Events including the second place in a Big National Debate Contest, the front page story/picture in our town (more than 200k peope) local newspaper. It's hard to predict the results in college admissions application. My D lost her interests in Wellesley after knowing that she is on the waiting list. She is happy in another top LAC now after rejecting Smith, Pomona.
My stepdaughter just graduated this year from Pomona college, her major is English& French, she is a good student, got two prizes. this year 370 students graduated. I feel this college is for those rich family. almost 250,000 $ paid for 4 years study, of course it is different from big University. their class is less than 10 people, and every student has his own room. they live in dormitory of college, they don't need to rent house outside of college. I think its good. but my husband told me he wish her to continue to study in law school because the salary is very little, difficult to survive. but i think if you are not that rich its good choice to send child to not so expensive school and continue to support child to Master degree, medical school or law school etc...
