什么 ball

i was reading a book with cc, suddenly she said :什么ball.....

i was puzzled, when did she learn how to say "什么"? then she pointed to a picture of a ball, repeated : 什么 ball...., then she pointed to a big ball and said : big ball..... then only i know 什么 ball is small ball
