The Carmina Burana were Poems written in Latin and sometimes old German dialects.
They are called Burana after their place of storage, the monastery of Benediktsbeuren and
written in the time of the 12th/13th century. Authors were travelling scholars.
After they were found Carl Orff set them to music and "O Fourtuna" is the first "carmen"
(lat., i.e. song) out of this cyclus. It is the most famous of all songs in Orff's Carmina Burana cyclus.
