this is not an appropriate forum to discuss how i keep connected with the world, but i don't depend on cnn, bbc, or cctv to feed what i want to know. let's stay on topic ...
how convenient for you to say that incidents don't count! this whole thread was started because of an incident. the original blogger made a storm in his tea cup for what was really not essential in the grand scheme of things for China.
track record? i didn't mention it at all. what track record? percentage of news truthfulness? then, cctv track record is absolutely better than bbc or cnn. it just doesn't report what you in particular want to know about China. that doesn't make its track record bad at all.
by the way, if you are not interested in those "incidents", why not look at the bigger picture? that is, China is making progresses and getting better every day in most aspects (including freedom of speech etc).

Your comparison makes no sense. Western media is highly commercialized. People watch TV for fun and fresh information mostly, not for political correctness (that's why as I see many Americans here are so naive at politics).

Oh, forgot to ask you: what would you watch for the world news then?

Shousheng, I referred to BBC in a broad sense. It could be CNN vs. CCTV, ABC vs. CCTV, Reuters vs. CCTV and etc. In your view, are agencies such as CNN, ABC, Reuters also of zero value or are you just against BBC?
It is pointless to center the argument on any one particular incident. I have already admitted that 中国没有绝对新闻自由. In any case, you are going to loose if you start talking about track record. For example, did you know from CCTV or any Chinese newspaper at the time how many people died during the 3 year famine? Did you know at the time how many innocent people were killed by Khmer Rouge?
I am not here to convince anyone which news is better, and I couldn't care less about what people choose.

回复Bali的评论: if I wanted to know what is going on in the world, i would watch neither. of course, it is your freedom to choose a news organization using an 8-year old picture to depict what is happening in China right now, but don't try to convince people that is better. In particular, in the view of what is helpful to China ultimately, BBC is of zero value.

Cheng 1616, you are right, 中国没有绝对新闻自由. If you want to know what's going on around the world, and if you can only choose one, which news would you watch? BBC or CCTV? I know which one I would watch.
