Today, Evan asked me a question at the dinner table.
"Mom, did you adopt me from Wal-Mart?" he asked.
"What?!" I was utterly surprised. "What do you mean?"
"Olivia told me that I was adopted from Wal-Mart." Evan said.
"Olivia?!" I turned to her and gave her a "What's up with this" look.
Olivia smiled. She leaned towards me and whispered to my ear: "Just pretend it is the truth. Tell him it is the truth."
I was curious what exactly Olivia told him, so I asked Evan: "What exactly did Olivia tell you?"
"She said you got me from Wal-Mart… and I was on sale."
Oh geez, like Wal-Mart is not enough, "on sale" too? I can't believe she even thought about it.
"Olivia said I was a baby in a crib on the shelf. You saw me and thought I was cute so you bought me." Evan finished the story and you could tell from his face that he was not sure whether this is the truth or not.
I gave Olivia that "I can't believe you did this to him" look and ensured Evan that Olivia was just joking with him and that he came out of my tummy and was not bought from Wal-Mart.
