I think they do that for money.
Recycle is a big business in U.S. I heard that in some states, the recycle stations around the city will pay you $1.40/lb for empty aluminum cans. Plastics is lower.
It's a rip-off for you to let them take your recycle stuff(= your $)and furthermore, your money.
Well, that's American way of business.
In general, the Americans seem to have more Sense of Citizenship than the Chinese.
Chinese people do not have that kind of 公民意识. I told my husband who is Canadian that people would come to my place and pay me to collect recyclable materials in China and here in US we have to classify them and pay to get them recycled? But I start to see his point and agree with him that it is everyone's responsibility to protect the environment.
