The problem is that most Chinese do not think being rich is a good thing and government can and will act on their behalf.
Haven't they learned anything after being a dirt for 5000 years?

均贫富 has been tried in China before, remember? The last time was around 1949. The poor who hated the rich happily supported the government to nationalize the private properties and redistribute them. How did that work out?
It seems to me that many people think government is more trust worthy and more caring than individuals and that 'rich' people are greedy and merciless.
Interesting essay. I never notice the republicans do not say middle class. I think both parties talk about fairness, just from different perspective. Republicans emphasize on individuality that is consistent with the western philosophy. It's just their anti-intellectualism rendering them without a good leader. However I see they will make a come back soon. But do not put too much faith in either party - it's all about kissing voters ass. Deep down under, they all dirty rotten scumbags - after all that is the essence of Christianity!

Hey I did say no RINO (Republican In Name Only) please, so no disagreement here. :)
I'm not for racial politics either. And I agree with you that many Chinese values are more in line with conservatism. I'm just saying that conservative Chinese now have a better opportunity to advance in a major political party.
In short, what matters is the message, but now is good time for Chinese to be messengers.

I don't agree with you on that.
I don't vote for someone based on his or her race, but what he or she stands for, wheather he or she represents my interests.
A conservetive society is good for us because we Chinese are conservetive on most issues.

Anyways,Chinese people are good at surviving in whatever system it may be. :)
I do think that Chinese Americans and Asian Americans have a great opportunity here to advance in the republican party, which is more interested now than ever in supporting minority candidates.
So let's hope more Chinese people will come out and run for public office. But no RINO please. :)
There is no perfect system in this world. There hasn't been one and will never be one, simply because people are different and they think and act differently no matter what.
But, a faith-based society that is ruled by laws is way better than a godless society ruled by tyranny. In that sense, there is no other country is better than this country that is so fair and tolerant. Every one can make it here and every one can excel.
those who condemn this country are those who think they know better than others and they should be the leaders.
We say no sir, this country is the best for everyone. No one should be above the Constitution.
Rule of law and faith in God is all we need.

I agree that no system is perfect, but just because corruption exists in all types of government doesn't mean there's no profound differences between a tyrannic government and a democratic government.
At least here in the state it's not illegal to be against The Party. At least not yet. :)

Thanks.
My only explaination is that those people do not see themselves as owners of the government but victims of the capitalist society. They want more for free because they don't think it is wrong to take from others. They think others are all rich people that have been robbing them.
However in the near term with Arlen Spector switching to Democrat and Al Franken getting seated there's nothing to stop the democrat agendas. Hopefully more people will wake up in 2010 to send more conservatives to congress.
What surprised me was to see so many people who migrated from China support democrat agendas such as big governement, wealth redistribution. Why did they come to states in the first place?
