My education started from a cave classroom which was supported at the inside end by a big column due to a big crack in the roof. The equipment consisted of a black board hung on the inside end, 5 rows of desks, and rows of stools. The desks were wooden top supported by cemented rocks at the two ends, and the stools were just cemented rocks. In the sunny days, the students at the last row did not have any problem reading the words on the blackboard; In the cloudy days, however, it was hard for the kids to tell what were on the board even with a gasoline flame in the front. Our school had two cave classrooms, for the kids from nearby 3 villages, and grade 1,2 4 in this cave, 3 and 5 were in the other newer cave. My mom was one of the two teachers in the school.
I was not a good student in the elementary school, at least to my mom. I got the lowest grade only in a coupe of times, but never got first grade in the five years study.
