Italy (6) - Uffizi Gallery

Day 7
Like the Vatican Museum, Uffizi Gallery is rated as one of the 20 must-see museums in the world by travelchannel.com. We saw lots of famous paintings by big name artists. It gets overwhelming.

After Uffizi, we crossed Ponte Vecchio (old bridge) and went to Trattoria Quattro Leoni (4 Lions), another restaurant Antonio recommended. They didn't have English menu, but our waiter's English was good enough to explain the menu to us. Dave had some kind of meat stew. I had Florentine-Style Tripe. They were both so good. I can't thank Antonio enough for recommending little gem like this to us. They made our Florence stay so memorable.

1. Ponte Vecchio (old bridge), the only Florentine bridge to survive World War II.

2. Peposo all'imprunetina (meat stew, 10 euros).

3. Trippa alla fiorentina (Florentine-Style Tripe, 10 euros).

4. Cheese cake (5 euros).

After lunch, we walked by Pitti Palace but decided not to go in. I had seen enough museum for today. We headed towards Michelangelo Plaza. After climbing hundreds of stairs, we reached the plaza where you could see the whole city. It was beautiful.

5. View from Michelangelo Plaza.

6. View from Michelangelo Plaza.

After climbing a couple of hundred more stairs, we reached St. Minias on the Mountain, a basilica standing atop one of the highest points in the city. The view was even better up there.

7. View from St. Minias on the Mountain.

8. View from St. Minias on the Mountain.

9. View from St. Minias on the Mountain.
