A few years back, I watched a Korean documentary on Fenshui and Life. The idea was one's fate is decided or to say reflected by below factors:
Bazi, year turning on, face feature, hand lines, hard working, home fengshui, parents' Bazi, previous life behaviour, name...
in fact, name is only a very small part of it, but Mr Sun could read so much from names. You are really on top of it! should say on peak of it ( Deng feng zao ji )
I know a Daoism expert in Sydney who came from HK, Mr Chen, very good at Ba Gua, he says, it is even more acurate than Bazi becuase in our morden world, too much info and too quick change, Bazi could only give a general direction while BaGua never lies as Bagua tells info ad hoc! I believe the function of name is similar to Bazi, gives a general direction but hard to tell the change.
After all, our lifes are just seconds in history, it is barely meaningful whether it is good or bad. We shall all go to the Lun Hui after our human life - human life is agony, is suffer, difference is more or less. So, if we set up higher targets and care less about material stuff, we should be more clairvoyent! Best wishes!

I think the issue made it inacurate might be that "the time" you set up the Gua. This time is the time news report their missing rather than the actual "time" kids got tramped. Besides, we are 8000km away from the incident area, signals too weak; you are not relevent to the family (you are not involved - usually Gua should be set up by the Involved to be acurate! )
I am no expert in it, only to share my understanding.
