participation is always a big factor in the appreciation of a sport.
from a pure view-ablity standpoint, soccer is indeed among the worst... the TV angle usually can show about 25% of the entire field, with players keep losing balls to each other in midfield... maybe once every 5 minutes, something that looks like a legitimate chance develop, only to end up in a anticlimax with the attaching player losing the ball, or shooting it 20 yards off target.
and the worst part is - 22 guys run around for 1.5 hours, only to have a game ending in 0-0.... it's laughable that soccer fans use this as an excuse for how precious the goals are... it's like people in famine arguing how delicious rotton foods are since they are so scarce to come by.
wonna talk about strength, tactics, speed and individual techniques?
strength - not to mention the average hockey player is 6 inches taller than the average footballer... if a boxing match breaks out, I will bet on the hockey guy all day.
tactics - how about even-strength, power play, penalty kill. the game itself requires more team tactics.
speed - ? a hockey player can skate circles around a footballer.
technique - ? any sports that requires skills on both the hands and the feet will always be more technical than feet alone.... actually hockey is argueably the most technically complex sport.
art - ? i don't know what you are talking about.... i know 1 thing, even the celebration after a goal is 'cooler' in hockey. the player who just scored will glide along the bench, exchanging fist touches with team mates.... unlike a soccer player who run around like a drunken mad.
How the chinese soccer fans can hang around such a pathetic team thru the years is totally beyond me... and the euphoria after a win in a 3rd tier tournament is further beyond explanation.
and, not to mention the free boxing match you get to watch

a sport more similar to soccer would be ice hockey, a continuous game with the same objective - trying to shoot the ball(puck) thru the goalie...
with no sidelines, endlines, the game is played at breath taking speed. the play off season is the most intensive of any sports, bar none. the game is so intense that shift changes happen on the fly, while each shift is only on the ice for about 1-2 minutes.
we should feel lucky that we get to see the highest level of hockey in North America, not to mention watching hockey live is another whole different experience than on TV.
soccer is only popular because it's so cheap to play. the equipment cost on 1 hockey player is probably more than 2 soccer teams added together.
so stop dwelling on soccer.. it's a boring, slow sport... out of 90 minutes, about 80 of them you see balls bounce around in midfield, with nothing happening.

回复noconfusion的评论:Agree! 看惯了football 会觉得soccer very boring。Football好看,一方面在于它
体现的力量,更重要的是它包含了许多的哲理。它眼花缭乱的战术就像是一部兵书,
是在诠释36计。如果要打比喻,football 就是围棋,soccer 只是象棋(中国)。Anyway,
congratulation to China soocer team beat Korean. I know Chinese can do
well in soccer.
