这首歌曲的创作和演唱者是著名音乐人Bertie Higgins（贝特·希金斯），他是18世纪德国著名诗人歌德的后代，出生于美国佛罗里达州，在他的青少年时期，著名电影演员和导演理查德·布尼发现了他的写作才能，指导他创作电影剧本，后来希金斯把这些才能运用到了他的歌曲创作中。当年，希金斯创作的歌曲《基拉戈》取得了美国歌曲排行榜第一名，被 CBS和索尼唱片公司在全球发行。
创作缘由
经典英文歌曲《卡萨布兰卡》（casablanca）并不是电影《卡萨布兰卡》（又名《北非谍影》）里的插曲，而是上世纪70年代由 Bertie Higgins（贝特·希金斯）在看完这部电影后有感而写出的，用的是电影的名字，后来成为爱情电影《广岛之恋》的插曲。
Bertie Higgins（贝特·希金斯）说：“这首歌是我为当时的女朋友、现在的妻子写的。我记得那是1982年，《北非谍影》是我们共同喜爱的电影，这部爱情片让我们如痴如醉。结合这部电影给我的感觉，我为女朋友写了《卡萨布兰卡》，她非常感动，还答应了我的求婚，成了我的妻子。”
