I am from Dongbei. Here is what I heard from people who have experienced the Japanese occupation in Beijing.
Japanese soldiers were very disciplined before they entered Beijing and went south. They would be punished if they did harm to civilians without orders. That was one of the reasons that most of civilians were not in resistant to Japanese at that time, since Japanese governance was said to be much better than the warlords.
There were many Korean Regiments in Japanese Army. There were the worst. They were belittled by Japanese. They were the primary soldiers who harassed, beat, and killed Chinese civilians. (As a side note, during opium wars, there were Sikhs Regiment in British Army. The Sikhs were the most brutal in treating Chinese. Similar things happened to Han Regiment in Manchurian invasion of Southern China.)
There are several Korean kids in my daughter's school. Somehow, their parents are so jealous at Chinese kids' achievement. When I was in graduate school, there was a Korean girl working in our lab. She was so disgusting, tried all the way to please white classmates in our class. Now, I refuse to any Korean made products.
