You did not count in social security benefits for both of you, and interest/investment income. For such a living standard, not much money to leave to your kids, you only need 1 to 2 MM in saving and retirement plans. But again, cost can be higher.

To add the following:
inevitably, health will go downhills, you will need personal care services, somebody who eithe lives there or come by during the day, to do cooking, light cleaning, and help get grocery etc. that is $2000 a month, at least.
-then transportation, with health declining, mind not as alert, vision not as good, driving may be dangerous. you may need transportation service at certain point to take you to the doctors, to the banks, to airport and to run some other errands.. at least 200 a month or more..
if one has to go to nursing home for intensive care, 24/7, that could be costly, if your medicare doesn't cover the 100% cost, or if you go to a privately owned facility with good services, you may need to spend a lot out of pocket..

纸钱不太贬值,物价涨得不太离谱: With O8, it is a piper dream now. Note: I voted for him.
