I think you are probably right. Finding a good looking wife is like a vanity thing for many Chinese men:-) Jing has many qualities that are under-appreciated by Wei. Every time when Wei feels proud of Jing, it is about her looks. Her persistence and tenacity are really quite remarkable, given that she has lived under the wings of her parents for all her life. Wei never expressed any admiration for those qualities. But to be fair, many men are like that. Wei is no worse than an average man. He is still young.:-)
I guess Juan will not marry with wei, she might continue her story with "Taiwanese", while she doesn't love"hun hun. wei has a barrier to think love&sex with Juan (old class leader), even he respects juan and feels warm from Juan very much.

Yeah, I'd guess being dumped is a blessing in disguise for David and his turning point. He will be forced to face his problems, because he can no longer fake it. We can't control what happens to us in life, but we can choose how to respond to it, and that separates a temporary setback from failure.
I guess Jing will end up with neither of these two men. But it's too early to tell who she will be with or what she will do. I can't figure out what career she will have.

You did an outstanding job of depicting David. He has many problems, but he is still quite likable and easy to relate to. One can't help but rooting for him. I think Xiao Jing did him a favor with the separation. This is someone who has never done anything in his life that he truly wants. He was pushed into one thing after the other. He clearly is a very smart boy and just has not found his true calling. Hopefully he is moving onto a new chapter. Please indulge us with more writing soon.

实验内容:
you told me you love me, will you marry me?
yes I will... absolutely I will...
回复dontmissme的评论:
I agree with you completely. I just thought we could cut her some slack, because she is so young. Plus, there is some advantage for both of them to end the marriage earlier than later. They have been married for a year or two, so ending it early means less pain in the long run. This is like what the president has been saying- it is time to pull off the band-aid and eat the peas:-). I personally also do not want her to end up with Jim. There is too much power differential to begin with, not a good start for a stable relationship. But each couple defines their own relationship, who am I to judge? Anyway, you are right. This is fiction. I think I am just having a little too much fun:-)
回复maxnruby的评论:
Pursuing happiness must follow some rules,it can not be an excuse to do anything. That's why so many readers do not like XiaoJin suddenly.
Anyhow ZhengWei needs big change to wake up.This is the best way. This is fiction, becoming more interesting.

Everyone has a right to pursue their happiness. Xiao Jing is no exception. True, it may be too hasty or immature to dissolve a marriage in two letters, but she is young, vulnerable, and helpless in a completely foreign country. Plus, it is more her parents' decision for her to marry David than her own. Who can blame her for falling for someone who has everything that she desires? At the same time, David also deserves someone better. Why be together with someone who does not think that you are good enough for her? David and Jing have very different upbringings and want completely different things in their lives. I agree with what the author said: their differences are structural. I don't think they can be resolved by compromises. Plus, I cynically think that people simply do not change, unless they have near death experience or go through something extraordinary in life. Maybe David would change. This is a fiction inspired by real life stories, so maybe the author will paint us a rosier picture than it actually is. Thanks so much for writing this novel. It has been fun following your writing this summer. The only complaint I have is the derogatory language David used against Xiao Jing. No matter how hurt or angry he is, it is simply out of line. Well, maybe that kind of vulgarity reflects his background. He is certainly no elite. Another reason why he and Xiao Jing are incompatible.
Zheng forgot to sign while he was cursing! The story is not over!
I actually don't like jing from the very beginning, maybe with my personal reason. Working in the restaurant seems the biggest torture in her whole life, both physically and mentally. How could it be compared with frustration in doing research or live alone as Liu does?
