It takes trial and error to find what you really love and good at. It is extremely important in a child's education that they have such opportunities. Even if the kid doesn't find what he/she loves, at least they can find a career they enjoy or don't hate.

鼓励她去谈一次恋爱吧,这也是成长的一个过程。
Barbara Bush 说过,嫁给了他,就像是进了一所学无止境滴大学。
在这个过程里,说不定叶子就清楚想要啥了。。。

I think it is also partly due to this girl's personality. She is probably mellow and can be easily swayed by others (even when she may put up a fight in the beginning). I believe some people are born like that and the Chinese upbringing doesn't help either. Some people may never find a dream that they can pursue, but they can still make a satisfying life for themselves. How many of us really chase after a dream when we know that it won't make a living for us? Very few of us can do what this man did with his life. It takes courage to drop everthing and do what you love ... if you know what you that is. Most of people's passion can only mount to hobby, not enough to pursue as a career.
A lot Chinese parents push their kids into the field the parents think is right. I have may friends push their kids into medical school. I do not think medical school is good for girls unless she love to be a doctor. It takes too long. If this girl graduated from medical school in China she can take USMLE and be a doctor here.

She is a nice girl, but a girl without dream. She may be a good mother and wife, but will not succeed in her career.
If one has not a dream, nowhere he can go.
I like the boy who has a dream. He will succeed in his career. When a person has a dream, he will try everything to make the dream become true.
