Elgar "In the South" ('Alassio') - Riccardo Muti and the Philade

Elgar's Concert Overture "In the South" was inspired by a holiday in the Italian resort of Alassio in 1903. The bad weather he and his wife endured didn't prevent him from composing this brilliant symphonic tone-poem.

It is superbly played here by the glorious Philadelphia Orchestra under its then Music Director, Riccardo Muti, in a 1986 radio broadcast.
