'Tis fine to see the Old World, and travel up and down
Among the famous palaces and cities of renown,
To admire the crumbly castles and the statues of the kings,-
But now I think I've had enough of antiquated things.
So, it's home again, and home again, America for me!
My heart is turning home again, there I long to be,
In the land of youth and freedom beyond the ocean bars,
Where the air is full of sunlight and the flag is full of stars.
Oh, London is a man's town, there is power in the air,
And Paris is a woman's town, with flowers in her hair;
And it's sweet to dream in Venice, and it is great to study Rome;
But when it comes to living there is no place like home.
I like the German fir-woods, in green battalions drilled;
I like the gardens of Versailles with flashing fountains filled;
But, oh, to take your hand, my dear, and ramble for a day
In the friendly western woodland where Nature has her way!
I know that Europe's wonderful, yet something seems to lack:
The past is too much with her, and the people looking back.
But the glory of the Present is to make the Future free,-
We love our land for what she is and what she is to be.
Oh, it's home again, and home again, America for me!
I want a ship that's westward bound to plough the rolling sea,
To the blessed Land of Room Enough beyond the ocean bars,
Where the air is full of sunshine and the flag is full of stars.
而“今日亦然直至永远”则想到“Glory be to the Father, and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be, world without end .” 的译文。我想范戴克先生写下“What she is and what she is to be ”的时候,可能也受到“Glory Be” 的启发。

回复九月独处的评论:
谢谢亲爱的九月,你的故事让我想起四年前北京奥运会放咱们国歌时,俺也把手放胸口,大半夜大宝和我一起看开幕式,小伙子听中国国歌也跟我一起致敬。We are lucky to have the best of both worlds. 心有多大,爱就有多多~~~Have a wonderful 4th of July (^O^☆♪

好美的诗词,好棒的翻译!
记得儿子小的时候有一次我们一起看World Olympics,当中国队和美国队出场时儿子童声童气地问我"Mama,which team you will support, China or America?",我当时一下楞住了,不知怎样回答,中国是我生我长的祖国,美国是我青春时选择成家立业的祖国,我更support哪一个呢,我更爱哪一个呢?只能说:I want the best for both of them,I love both of them,though,maybe in a different way。。。
Nice poem. Positively sentimental.
In return, I'd like to share a passage from Emerson's Self-Reliance.
``It is for want of self-culture that the superstition of Travelling, whose idols are Italy, England, Egypt, retains its fascination for all educated Americans. They who made England, Italy, or Greece venerable in the imagination did so by sticking fast where they were, like an axis of the earth. In manly hours, we feel that duty is our place. The soul is no traveller; the wise man stays at home, and when his necessities, his duties, on any occasion call him from his house, or into foreign lands, he is at home still, and shall make men sensible by the expression of his countenance, that he goes the missionary of wisdom and virtue, and visits cities and men like a sovereign, and not like an interloper or a valet.
