I shall never forget that I drew tears from your eyes the first time I sang to you. These are the jewels that rejoice a singer’s heart.”叶君健 翻译得非常优美 :“您的那每一滴眼泪都是一粒珍珠。”〕

I really can not understand one thing -- Why so many Chinese in this forum are so ignorant of the history ? They really don't know Hong Kong 偷渡 thing happened 40 years ago ?
When I read comment like "First time knowing this history...", I am speechless --- What books have these people read ? They should read more books about China, for example, read the book written by Mao's family doctor, read the book written by June 4 Tianmen square, read book written by China culture revolution survival, read more and more books banned in mainland China but can be found in the USA libraries. Then you will have a comprehensive understanding about China. Then you read this article again you will find out you have already seen it from outside to inside. You would have an objective view on China and will realize only people with limited knowledge see things from extreme angle.

I agree there are lot of issues with China and Chinese government. But some people including author are 妖魔化 China. There are lot of problems in America (gun violence, discrimination, race, social security, war, etc) but we should not 妖魔化 America. Same thing applies to China, it is just that simple.
Psychologically when a person did something unbelievably challenging/painful (and usually highly risky) to accomplish a goal he believed to be perfect at that moment, he would tend to deny any idea that contradicts his original thought, or any hint that suggests any alternative solution other than his own approach. He tends to hold the firm belief that his approach was the best and anything he was against is still the worst evil in the world. He would feel very uncomfortable if someone tells him the problem prompting his action has been changed or improved. He would mentally deny it or hate to hear that because he feels that would invalidate his original decision and deny his wisdom. He firmly believes whatever he saw 40 years is still the same thing happening today, simply because he has mentally frozen himself in the past.

Mr 伟少江, I can tell you only like to see the comments that supports you, praise you, or cheer you. You don't like to see those comments that disagree with you or challenge you.
You have moved out of the country you hate to death, but you don't know that part of your mind has been ingrained with communist stamp. Simply by looking at how you react to the comments I can tell.. We have lot of Chinese like this -- They claim they hate Chinese communist party but they are acting more or less like a Chinese communist...
小百脸, I think you are a 书呆子, When I said "天下乌鸦一般黑" I was following up the story Lovekangkai talked about his work place's “话语权" issue.. -- I am sure in author's mind, he will see China as evil forever. His understanding and knowledge of China still stays and will stay forever in 1974. He can never move beyond that day.
I remember once I talked with an old American guy, He said something that shocked me "Do Chinese people have reading glasses as we have here ?" I was shocked, then he told me he visited a Chinese village 30+ years ago and saw some people couldn't afford reading glasses...
