I challenge anyone to
1. give a defensible argument for banning painting, photograph, sculpture, video, electronic games, depicting nudity, sexual organs and sexual acts;
2. be able to establish a clearly defined criterion for distinguishing art concerning nudity from eroticism and pornography, separating love from lust.
I would argue that the appreciation of the art, of at least the nude human body, derived largely from sexuality. Many, if not most of the, art forms evoke sexuality in anyone with a normal experience. It would be One can not help but imagine female genitalia upon seeing Geogia O'Keeffe's irises. There is nothing shameful about it. On the contrary, sexuality should be celebrated. It is, after all, all of human lives and most of living things are all about.
For all the love I have for ideals American, I find it peculiar many Americans abhor public display of sexuality while fighting Islamic terrorists who impose burka on women, ban books from the library while rooting out Taliban who burn books.
Whether it's in China or the US, these restrictions and inhibitions stem mostly from hypocrisies, whether religious or cultural. It is no different from prohibitions of various books in libraries.This is an affront to the First Amendment right and individual freedom, and is only in a milder form in comparison to the Islamic outrage and violence in reaction to Mu Hammed cartoon.
