Q. When a Christian dies, do they go to “sleep,” until the time Jesus comes to rapture them, or does their soul or spirit go directly to heaven? Do they wait for their resurrection body while they are up there? Also, where does a non-believer go when they die? To “sleep” to await judgment? Thank you.
A. When believers die their spirits go directly to be with the Lord where they await resurrection bodies. (Phil. 1:22-23) They receive these at the Rapture. (1 Cor. 15:51-52)
Non believers go to a place called Torments in Hades where they experience oppressive heat, thirst, and other discomforts until they’re brought back to life for the judgment of the unsaved at the end of the Millennium. (Luke 16:19-31 & Rev. 20:11-15)
