Among the many unusual wedding traditions of the Indonesian Tedong people, the strangest by far is a three-day prohibition against bathroom use for the bride and groom. Breaking the three-day “just hold it” rule after the wedding ceremony is believed to result in bad luck. The folk belief even goes so far as to predict consequences as severe as divorce or the death of a child. During the three days, the newlyweds eat and drink as little as possible, and are kept under strict observation by their friends and relatives.
