I fell into the story of this film like a warm bath. How lovely.

Starring: Jenny Seagrove, Deborah Kerr, Liam Neeson
In this adaptation of part one of Barbara Taylor Bradford's "Woman of Substance" trilogy, Emma Harte (Jenny Seagrove) endeavors against long odds and little support to become as wealthy and powerful as any man of the day. In this epic of great sweep and grandeur, encompassing much of 20th-century history as a backdrop, Emma's determination becomes a metaphor for female empowerment in a world tilted so hard against it.

    • What a fabulous movie !! And the scenes from Yorkshire, our family seat, were a lovely memory of another time in that place. My father was born in Barnsley in 1899, my grandfather and great grandfather before him. My Yorkshire roots grow deep as, at 71, I am the patriarch of the family now. As a hopeless Romantic, a Taurus, a journalist (retired), I fell into the story of this film like a warm bath. How lovely. Thank you for sharing this film on You Tube. -- Peter Crossley?
