THE BREDESEN PROTOCOL – AN ANTI-ALZHEIMER’S DIET
A plant-based, mildly ketogenic diet
THE MAIN COMPONENTS OF THE PROTOCOL INCLUDE:
- Whole, Predominantly Plant-Based foods
- Mild ketosis
- Complex carbohydrates
- 10-15 servings of non-starchy vegetables/day
- Healthy fats – mostly monounsaturated foods such as nuts, seeds, and olive oil
- Lean protein such as legumes and cold-water, low-mercury fish
- Low-glycemic fruit such as berries
- A 12-hour nightly fast + a 3-hour fast before bedtime

WHAT THE DIET AVOIDS:
- Highly processed foods such as protein/energy bars (which Amylee calls glorified candy-bars)
- Large amounts of meat and animal products
- Simple carbohydrates such as refined bread, crackers, pastries
- Simple sugar
- All non-nutritive sweeteners such as Splenda
- Gluten*
