But it appears Yan and her three co-authors haven’t changed many minds in the scientific community with their reasoning for why this coronavirus appears to be bioengineered.
“It’s deeply speculative, and the scenarios proposed are not very believable,” said Alina Chan, a postdoctoral fellow at Harvard University and MIT’s Broad Institute. Angela Rasmussen, a virologist at Columbia University, told me the study “is totally bogus.”
回复 'helix22' 的评论 : viral genomes are evolving rapidly. Enzymatic sites can be created as result of natural mutation. Swap of genetic block happen all the time naturally in animal and human's body.

I was not referring to their paper. I am commenting on cng’s claim that only something like a invoice for viral DNA synthesis can be used for evidence. That is extreme. The viral sequence alone can be a powerful tool to learn something. So far the studies of the sequence has not supported the claim that the virus was man-made.

This thinking is too extreme. The genome sequence does provide crucial information to infer certain conclusions. So far experts have not seen evidence to support the scenario of a man-made virus.

Logic basics ABC tell us it is fallacy to prove "negative".
In this case, it is virtually impossible to prove "Wuhan lab DID NOT manufacture the virus".
Instead, it is accuser's responsibility to show, positively, that Wuhan lab actually made the coronavirus.
Evidence? Viral genome is no evidence. Something like a invoice of viral DNA synthesis from vendor, however, would do. Things like that would be easy to obtain when you have defectors.
