与蒙特利尔西岛其它市镇的功能相似，Pointe-Claire市也是蒙特利尔市的“卧室”，居住功能居于第一位；但是，这座小城的经济比西岛其它城镇更活跃，尤其是零售业、灯光设备制造业、工商业楼宇出租业等。

小城有很多旅游资源，其中最重要的当属Pointe-Claire风磨，这个风磨同时也是这座城市的重要标志。 2002年，蒙特利尔市政重组，Pointe-Claire被并入蒙特利尔，成为一个区。

但是，2003年大选之后，2004年，经过一次全民公决，2006年这里又重新成为一个独立的城市。
