In my view, the analysis only took account of the absolute reduction of R value during the lockdown period without considering the scenario if there is no lockdown. Thus, the conclusion of minor or minimal effect of lockdown is somewhat misleading. In fact, different modeling from a number of epidemiological experts at Washington University, Columbia university, Harvard university, UK imperial college, and other groups have already emphasized the importance of lockdown. No body likes lockdown and unfortunately we don't have a good choice.

And within the last twenty years or even longer, there hasn't been such serious public heath issue and I am not surprised that in some people minds that such issue has not been so alarming/devastating.

without lockdown, hospitals and ICUs will be flooded again and death rate will go high once the infection rate goes high. Why do we have to have repeated lockdown? It is sad to see that a scientific/public health issue has been politicalized and general public were more influenced by the political opinions.
At this critical moment, there is no strong political/scientific figure to lead the public out of the woods.
