Subject: Senator Blackburn’s Racist Tweet Against All People with Chinese Heritage
December 8, 2020
The Honorable Nancy Pelosi, Speaker of the House of Representatives
The Honorable Mitch McConnell, Majority Leader of the Senate
The Honorable Kevin McCarthy, Minority Leader of the House of Representatives
The Honorable Charles Schumer, Minority Leader of the Senate
On December 3, 2020, Senator Marsha Blackburn tweeted the following:
“China has a 5,000 year history of cheating and stealing. Some things will never change...”.
The above screenshot was captured on December 7, 23:00, EST.
The tweet itself is simply racist regardless of to whom Sen. Blackburn was trying to communicate in whatever context.
What is more appalling and alarming is the tweet has attracted 24.3K “Likes” and growing the same way as a cancer cell metastasizing across the social media.
On October 16, 2013, A 6-year-old boy said, “Kill everyone in China” on Jimmy Kimmel’s talk show, and Kimmel replied: "Kill everyone in China? OK, that's an interesting idea.” Both Mr. Kimmel and ABC apologized for such outrageously racist and violent segment.
Obviously, every member of Congress must be held at a much high standard than a talk-show host in the entertainment industry.
We, the civic organizations and individuals of Chinese Americans community across the United States, hereby demand the following congressional actions:
Senator Blackburn shall sincerely apologize on the Senate floor to the Chinese Americans community.
The Senate shall pass a resolution to censure Senator Blackburn for her racist tweet.
The House shall pass a resolution to denounce such racist speech from a member of Congress.

I went to her website to send her this email: I feel extremely offended to know you wrote that Chinese 5000 year history is “cheating and stealing‘. Watch out your racial discrimination mouth, your dirty mind toward Chinese needs to change. This is not about Chinese government, It is about Chinese Americans like me were attacked and insulted by you.”

With the tweet, Senator Blackburn was basically accusing the entire Chinese people including all our ancestors of stealing for the last five thousand years, which cannot be farther from the truth and is a strong insult to all Chinese Americans and other people of Chinese heritage.
Senator Blacknurn's public display of such a racist (or racially-insensitive) remark runs counter to the effort of the American people and their representatives to Congress to rid our great country of racism against Chinese Americans and people of other ethnic background. It is unacceptable and shouldn't be tolerated.
We believe that as a member of the US congress, Senator Blackburn should be held to a high standard. Therefore, we respectfully ask the US Senate and house of representatives to jointly censure her over her racist (or racially-insensitive) tweet.
