Advanced players often ask how to do self-training without a coach in order to beat their worst opponents in competition. Here are some of my offers:

  1. Grab 2 or 3 balls to serve and volley. Use imagination on court that you are facing partner, serve wide and volley to opposite direction.
  2. Open court. Serve and hit the ball inside out. Spots marking 1,2,3,4 are the best placements of ball, forcing opponent to go off court.
  3. Heavy ground stroke. Serve and hard hit the ball to the baseline center (spot 5 )where opponent’s feet are  with top spin forcing opponent to make an error.
  4. Drop and Lob. Serve and follow up with a drop shot pushing opponent coming to the net, then hit a lob.

To fully comprehend these tips you must be level 4 above, capable of adjusting footworks, ball control(avoid faults), placing ball, diversifying  shots, retaining and breaking rythems accordingly.
