China consumed more meat than the US in 2012

In 2012, Chinese ate up 107 million tons (mt) of meat

(including 52 mt pork, 6 mt beef, 12 mt chicken, and 37 mt fish), whereas

American ate 31.5 mt of meat (including 8 mt pork, 11 mt beef, 12 mt chicken,

Based on meat consumption per capita, however, one Chinese ate

174 pounds of meat, while an American consumed 224 pounds of meat in 2012. On

average, an American ate 49 pounds of meat more than a Chinese did.
