A hardly essay is an essay well-written yet hardly made an admission due to its topic. It fells on the border between admission and rejection, and often result in a WL before receiving a final decision.
The essay that earns a deferral from early round to regular is not a hardly essay, since the early round decisions are much less often made on the quality of an essay than the regular round decisions do.
