Also well said that it could be planted as an ornamental tree, even in the front yard. In the fall, the leaves turned bright red, and in the winter, the left-over persimmons look like tiny Chinese red lanterns.
I have a fuyu, zone 8. My kids don't like the tastes of persimmons that much.
It's an acquired taste, not everyone will get it. I mean if you didn't grow up with this fruit, it feels weird. It's kind of like apples when it's hard but not as crisp and tangy. The soft version is even more alien to people that are not familiar with it. No one in my family likes it. It stays at the front yard as part of the decorations for Christmas.
