I rarely go anywhere during the years of living in the U.S. Statistics showed 67% of Americans never travel overseas in their lives. Americans work hard and have little disposable income to spend on traveling. I am the same. Every penny spent is calculated. If I ever go traveling, it must have a purpose and not just for having fun. I'd like to visit Poland because I want to visit Auschwitz-Birkenau KL. I want to go to Israel because of my reverence of Jewish culture and interest in Palestinian-Israeli conflict. I've done a lot research on Holocaust and I'm intrigued by Judaism so it's gonna the theme for my future traveling. Or it will just stay as a pipe dream. It's way too time consuming and costly to travel overseas. My work schedule and my wallet basically say "no" to such plans. Anytime I made a peep about venturing out to other states, my husband would say" "Ah, ah, you're crazy." or " it's too dangerous", "You might get killed by a lightening bolt or car wreck!"

I'm not going anywhere without knowing some locals as guides. Next year I'm hoping to go to Istanbul with my preteen daughter for a Turkish music academy's summer camp. We already know the liaison or coordinator of this academy. There's a one day sightseeing, the rest is playing violin in the academy. I heard that going anywhere in Turkey without a local guide is dangerous, meaning you might be abducted or scammed by the vendors. The vendors at the bazzar can drag you inside without you making a peep. Then you'd disappear from the earth or be "taken". My 12 year old definitely shouldn't go anywhere without me and/or our trusted guide.
