USA kaleidoscopic Tai-Pan, reflecting on nations—bad, good, and ugly—all came to the USA. Whatever happens outside of the US, it reflects the "Tai-pan"[大班] of all nations living here in the US, which control the center of attention. Reading the post by 唐宋韵 , I got the image of the movie starring Joan Chen's first Hollywood movie, "Tai Pan."

"Tai-pan"[大班]: The term itself is somewhat antiquated and specific to a certain historical and cultural context. While there are certainly foreign executives and entrepreneurs with significant influence in international business, the idea of Tai-Pans residing in the US manipulating affairs elsewhere might be an oversimplification.

Global business operations today involve a complex network of executives, entrepreneurs, and professionals from various backgrounds and nationalities. Decision-making processes are collaborative and multifaceted, often involving teams and leaders from different parts of the world. While individuals may play crucial roles in shaping the direction of multinational corporations, attributing the concept of Tai-Pans to their activities may not accurately capture the current dynamics of global business operations.

Ideally, the US needs inspirational leaders to integrate all these "Tai-Pan" to give up their original bias and blend into the US future.

She used to be a student at the Shanghai Foreign Language Institute, so she had an outstanding English-language background when she arrived on the new continent. She is smart and international. In the 1980s, some Chinese pretended to be inferior to the west by somewhat depreciating their own motherland, so they could get some favour , such as friendship, acknowledgment, identification, etc., from westerners. This phenomenon has changed since China has developed so well in the past three decades. Chen Chong also has a luxurious home in Shanghai now, her home city in China. I guess, from some TV programs, she dwells in San Francisco now, though. She is fine.

I think it's amazing how well Joan Chen learned to speak English.

Tai-Pan is a 1986 adventure drama film directed by Daryl Duke, loosely based on James Clavell's 1966 novel of the same name. While many of the same characters and plot twists are maintained, a few smaller occurrences are left out.Tai-Pan (film) - Wikipedia

It's 1842, and a battle is raging between imperialist England and the port city of Hong Kong. British merchants regularly buy opium from Chinese merchants and sell it back to them at higher prices, which enrages the locals. The powerful British forces quickly quell a Chinese uprising and take over the city, inspiring the ambitious Dirk Struan (Bryan Brown) to become its leader. Dirk finds himself pitted against the unscrupulous Tyler Brock (John Stanton) in his quest to rule Hong Kong.

This is not a historical tome. It is a fictionalized account of the first year of the British colony of Hong Kong (1841). The characters are all loosely based on actual people - as are their trading companies. That is what Clavell did in his novels and it's important that one understand that.

大班
A tai-pan (Chinese: 大班; pinyin: dà bān; Sidney Lau: daai6baan1, literally "top class"), sometimes spelled taipan, is a foreign-born senior business executive or entrepreneur operating in mainland China or Hong Kong.

A "Tai-Pan" (大班 dà bān) is a term used to describe a foreign-born senior business executive or entrepreneur who holds a top-level position in a company operating in mainland China or Hong Kong. The term is of Chinese origin, and its literal translation, "大班," means "top class" or "big class" in English. The concept of a Tai-Pan is closely associated with the historical and economic context of Hong Kong and China.

The title carries a sense of prestige and authority, indicating that the individual holds a high-ranking and influential position within the business hierarchy. Tai-Pans are often leaders of major multinational corporations, particularly those with significant business interests in the region. They play a crucial role in managing and making strategic decisions for their companies, navigating the complex business environment, and often bridging cultural gaps between Western business practices and the local Chinese context.

Historically, the term gained prominence during the colonial era in Hong Kong when foreign entrepreneurs and business leaders played a significant role in the region's economic development. The Tai-Pan was typically the head of a major trading firm or business conglomerate.

While the term has historical roots, it is still used today to describe expatriate executives holding key positions in businesses operating in Greater China.

It was commonly associated with individuals who played a significant role in the economic development of the region, particularly during the colonial era in Hong Kong.
